Sketchabilities #148 Finale – You make me smile

Sketchabilities is on its final sketch, and with a slightly heavy but grateful heart I must say I’m really glad to be part of this design team twice! Its been a real honour. Thank you Karan! To catch Karan’s future sketches, she will post them from time to time on her blog HERE

Without further ado, here’s me sharing #148 I’ve done for the blog.

148

This layout is pretty much the use-up-the-remaining-supplies-of-your-favourite-stash layout. I used the Fancy Pants’ Its the Little Things collection once again and in the collection, I had this pack of rub-ons which I had not opened… and so I decided to go wild and generous with it.DSCN7795 DSCN7798 DSCN7799 DSCN7800

DSCN7801

I think I really love rub-ons now! Hope this inspires you to take out that old stash and get cracking! (Which also reminds me of the many other stashes I’ve yet to finish using!)

Sketchabilities is on its final fortnight so be sure to link up your sketch with us here over the next 2 weeks for a chance to be a lucky winner of some prizes from Dies R Us. :)

Sketchabilities #147 – 3 Cheers & Let’s get together!

I was running through my photo stash to scrap something for this sketch when I came across this photo taken eons ago – i had actually printed this out for scrapping but had forgotten all about it over the years!

I must say I really enjoyed this sketch and also all the pastels and pinks that came along with it! Used Theresa Collin’s Pink & some Crate Paper Confetti for this – and boy, do I like how it turned out…! Do hop by Sketchabilities this fortnight and link your sketches up with us (Prizes sponsored by Freckled Fawn this fortnight!) :) Run through those old photos, who knows you may find a cute little photo that’s really worth documenting together with this sketch too, just like how I stumbled upon mine…. happy scrapping!

Sketchabilities #146 – Warrior Girl and all

Hey guys! Its reveal day again for Sketchabilities. Hope you got here from the Sketchabilities site! For this fortnight’s sketch, its another 3 photo layout which I honestly adored!

146

Decided to scrap about a photoshoot I did for my cousin’s portfolio. Honestly had quite a lot of fun being warrior girl and all in the photoshoot…

Without further ado.. here’s the layout featuring a black x white theme!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Hi guys! Singapore turns 50 today (9th Aug 2015) and to commemorate and remember this special day as a Singaporean, I decided to do a layout that reflects a little bit about what I love about my little red dot (Singapore) which I call home! Am post dating this post to the 15th just for Sketchabilities fortnightly posting on the blog though, so when you see this, its a little belated.

Without further ado, my layout! Base papers from Crate Paper’s – Wonder and all the Singapore related cut outs are from random brochures I collected.

Janice Yue Sketch #145 145

And the sketch for this week is this pretty one here by Karan! :) You can participate by linking up your sketches with us on the site here

What I love most about Singapore is this city skyline here! Everytime I do city runs round this area after work, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with how grateful I am to be able to grow up and live in this beautiful city #feelingpatrioticagain

We had a long weekend here in Singapore to celebrate 50 years of our nation’s success (Thank you fore fathers of Singapore for building this nation from scratch! we owe a lot to you all…especially our late founding father Mr. Lee). It was pretty happening all around the island especially on National Day, where every one was decked in red and white and all came down down to the bay area just to soak in the atmosphere and also grab early seats to watch the spectacular fireworks display after the National Day Parade. Jason and I spent the Jubilee weekend soaking up some Singapore history over the past few days at the National Museum and the Stamps museum which were free to the public! We also caught a glimpse of the pre-fireworks display the day before National Day and took strolls around the bay area… Lastly, we enjoyed the National Day Parade from the comfort of our own homes as we weren’t a fan of moshing with the crowds. It was fun scrolling Facebook to see how everyone spent their long weekend! But if there was one thing in common, I think pretty much everyone was in a thankful and celebratory spirit… which was pretty darn amazing. :*) DSCN7671 DSCN7673

Majulah Singapura – means Onward Singapore. It is also the title of our National Anthem.DSCN7675

Photo credits to Mediacorp! hahahah I wasn’t at the parade so I don’t have live photos, but this photo is too gorgeous not to document. heheheh

Till my next post, cya!

Sketchabilities #144 – Shinjuku Gyoen

Just gotten back from my 2nd Japan trip in a year. (Gosh I really love Japan! The culture, the food, the cleanliness and orderliness is amazing!) This time round, it was a trip with my family and we did a fly cruise this time – flying to Tokyo to take a cruise around Hokkaido. Anyway, prior to cruising, we took a couple of days around Tokyo with stops at Meiji Shrine and Shinjuku Gyoen which I didn’t have a chance to visit the previous trip. I must say the greenery in Summer is amazing… and the best part is – its not that crowded.

Without further ado, my layout for Sketchabilities #144 this fortnight features some shots from Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens!!!!

144

Anyway Karan’s really doing an awesome job with her sketches. Some of the upcoming ones after this looks really fun and I can’t wait for you guys to participate in them. :) For this fortnight, (Sketch #144) we have awesome Canadian sponsor Infinite Design Scrapbook Studio who will be sponsoring the prize for this sketch – soooo do participate if you can.

Am using papers from Fancy Pants Design – Office Suite Collection (well the whats remaining of my few papers that is :P ). I did another similar layout with this collection here. Really love the pastel hues in this set and how they go so well with white, not forgetting those cute flowers :)

DSCN7581

A little back story about this scrap: my parents and I were just about to leave the French Gardens in Shinjuku Gyoen when we stumbled upon this beautiful path lined with trees and I thought it would be nice to just photograph a few cute pics of my parents walking down hand in hand! They were really spontaneous about it and so I managed to get a few good memories down in my camera for keeps.

DSCN7583 DSCN7582 DSCN7584

Love this photo so much! Looks like they’re taking a walk down memory lane…

Anyway, the Shinjuku Gyoen is most famous during the Cherry Blossom season in April.. (but I found some beauty in it in Summer albeit the heat) – definitely worth a visit all year round except winter especially if you’re a plant or nature lover….!

Till next time x

Sketchabilities #143 – Its all about us…

Hey guys! Its sketchabilities time again :) This week i’m changing things up by doing an altered tray instead.

143

I squeezed the sketch idea a little bit to fit it into this space. Check it out!DSCN6388 DSCN6396 DSCN6392 DSCN6395 DSCN6390

Its my first time experimenting with gauze after watching so many artists use this together with paper flowers! I must say it works really well with glue and helps the flowers stick better to the papers.

Also reused a sturdy old tag from my jeans for this layout… everything else is from the blue fern studios ombre dreams collection! I can’t believe I’ve used nearly all the papers in that set already!!! Photo corner embellies from prima and my paper flowers are from bangkok.. hope this inspires you to recreate something from this fortnight’s sketch!!

till da next :) seeya

Sketchabilities #142: You guys make me so happy!

Nothing beats having a scrap of your favourite family portrait!

Am featuring my current favourite from Chinese New Year this year. (We take one every Chinese New Year at home with the camera on timer from the top of the tv set. haha. Its one of those occasions where we’re all sorta dressed to the nines…) Here’s this fortnight’s Sketchabilities sketch. I’ve did a mirror image of this scrap instead of the regular one shown here.

142

Decided to try something different with a Dear Lizzy stencil my friend lent to me and decided to do some water colouring with it using 3 distress inks – Victorian Velvet, Tea Dye and Spiced Marmalade. I loved how Spiced Marmalade turned shades of orange and yellow upon its combination with water and how Tea Dye and Victorian Velvet muted the portions of the colours. :)

DSCN6368 Here goes with the photo spam of close ups of the water colouring!!!  DSCN6369 DSCN6362 DSCN6364

Materials used: Water colour paper, Tim Holtz Distress Inks – Tea Dye, Spiced Marmalade, Victorian Velvet, Quote card – My Minds Eye Jubilee, Kaisercraft Be-YOU-tiful papers, Random scrap papers, and Scroll Ribbons..

Thanks for lookin and be sure to take part in the sketch by linking up here for a chance to win some goodies from Creative Embellishments!

Sketchabilities #141 – Its a beautiful day in Tasmania

Am back to the scrap with Sketchabilities! And this is our first sketch this new term :)

Here goes!

141

So I took a dive with some old #throwback pics from my 2013 Tasmania Road Trip. This one’s taken in Cradle Mountain. We stopped by a random viewpoint while driving out of Cradle Mountain National Park and decided to go take a peek and whats in stored. Woah, no regrets there, cause the view was pretty amazing.

DSCN6340

Used lots of pretty papers from Blue Fern Studio‘s Ombre Dreams collection this time round. Loving how the whole pastel theme turned out! Chipboard embellies from Crate Paper! And the Project Life title card is from the Project Life Inspire edition.

DSCN6342 DSCN6344

If there was a random tip I have to share right now, that would be to shop for papers at the scrapbook store by theme/ collection. For example, I really loved this whole Ombre Dreams collection, so I pretty much bought every single sheet of paper that had for that collection. Or if lets say you only like a couple of papers from a certain collection… but only those elaborate patterned ones. Then remember to also buy some plain coloured cardstock with a similar colour scheme that the patterned papers have. This way, you will always have coordinating papers to match the ones that you like when you’re doing a layout.

I also find that sorting my papers in 12×12 plastic sleeves by collection/ designer (if the designers have collection along the same colour scheme or style) helps with getting my scrapping done more efficiently. This way I’ll always be able to find a colour scheme that matches fast! Also, all my left over scrap paper will be right there available for me so I don’t have to re-cut out small scraps from new 12×12 papers. :)

Hope this helps you too! Till the next x

LCOM #122 – Right here with nature

Hey guys, Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!!!!! Hope you’ve also fallen in love with scrapbooking like I have and that you’re also having fun scrapping on this very special day :D

Anyway, I’m back with a quickie layout for LCOM again – here’s the sketch! Do pop by the LCOM blog to participate and link your sketch with us! :)

image (23)

This pic is another fave from my Tasmania road trip in Apr 2013. We took a quick trail down the Enchanted walk in the Cradle Mountain area.. and boy, was the view and being so close to nature enchanting indeed! Scrapped this within 30 min with goodies from the Office Suite collection by Fancy Pants Designs! The pastel colours and coordinating designs were seriously mad love!! (Chipboard embellishments from Kiss Kiss collection by Crate Paper & font stickers from Dear Lizzy)

Thanks for looking and hope this inspires you to get scrappin done in a flash x

LCOM #120 – Choir memories

For sketch #120 for LCOM, (featuring the beautiful sketch by Shirley) I decided to scrap a fave photo from my choir days back in JC! This photo dates back to 2007, freaking 8 years ago… how time really flies! Those Choir days were probably one of the best moments I truly learnt to appreciate music and teamwork so much. :) Missing those times training and singing all day long.

DSCN6329

DSCN6332 DSCN6331 DSCN6333

Used lotsa items from Blue fern studios and random choir themed embellishment stickers from K&C! I realised, that destressing the embellies a little actually allowed it to blend better with Blue fern studio’s more vintagey papers! I guess thats why Tea Dye and Vintage Photo distress inks from Ranger Ink is really still one of my go-to products after so many years!

Happy scrapping those happy memories x
